Krurling is a process by which a pattern (usually cross-hatched) is cut or stamped into a surface. For tools, knurling is usually done to provide better grip, as it replaces a smooth surface with a rougher one. Knurling may also be done for decoration. A surface to which knurling has been applied is said to be knurled.
